Hi! I'm Alison Yin, and I'm a photographer based in Oakland, CA. I grew up in Los Angeles, and I frequently travel throughout California photographing people and events. I love traveling to new places and meeting people.
Photography is a way of life for me - I make pictures almost everyday. I love capturing natural moments and the essence of personalities, and I use my documentary roots to tell the story of your wedding. Please visit my wedding portfolio here.
You can see more of my work by viewing my editorial portfolio here.
I also share a photojournalism blog with my partner Adm Golub here.
I've created this blog so I can have another platform to share more photos and wedding related resources. I love feedback so please feel free to leave comments!
I didn’t realize until my last post that it had been more than a month since my last blogging efforts. It’s true, wedding season has slowed down so there aren’t many shoots to blog, but really, a whole month without blogging????? That’s no bueno. So, what have we been doing this past month? We started the year off with a trip to Portland and Astoria – Portland for fun, Astoria to visit Adm’s sister and nieces where there is lots of fun.
Adm took this photo of me in Deschutes Brewery. My favorite beer of theirs: “Streaking Through the Quad.”
February 3, 2010 - 5:42 AMJessi - Hey I went to deschutes brewery this summer w. my fam! Our old roomie, Richie, is from Bend and was always talking about that place! Looks like a fun trip!
February 3, 2010 - 5:06 PMJennye - I love these! Jealous that you guys got to go up there and visit, but so glad that you had fun. Hope to see you both soon. XOXO.
As my wedding shooting has slowed down a bit for the moment, I’ve been designing some albums, and have decided to post samples of albums and folios. For my albums, I offer Cypress and Laguna albums, both beautiful books made by two different companies to offer two completely different looks. The Laguna albums are made with man-made leather, and the pages are printed on photo paper, laminated and mounted to mat boards for a heavy-weight page similar to a child’s picture book. The Cypress albums are made from Japanese bookbinding fabric and silk ribbon, and the photo prints are permanently matted into the pages. The album comes in an elegant presentation box for further protection. Additionally, Cypress makes folios that are lovely gifts for members of the bridal party and parents. As a fun side note, Cypress is based in Glendale, my home town!
Here are the Laguna albums:

What a year 2009 has been! I’ve learned so much and met so many amazing people in my first full year of photographing weddings. I feel so grateful for the families that have trusted Adm and me with one of the most special days of their lives. Thank you thank you to all of my wonderful couples who made this year so incredible! Here is a collection of photos from every wedding and engagement session that we photographed in the past 12 months:
Ellen and Ivan have actually been married for a year, but they wanted to do some portraits of them in love for their family. I met up with them in Modesto, and we headed outdoors for some railway shots where they risked getting run over by a train all for the sake of good back light. Seriously. I can’t imagine they’ll be crossing tracks with me anytime soon. We also did some photos in their home, which was nice and cozy. They were both so good-natured and bright and fun to photograph!
Rachel and Sky were married within the gorgeous Redwood trees in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. With only their parents and Rachel’s brother, it was an intimate wedding in an idyllic setting. After their ceremony, Rachel’s brother and father treated us to one of my personal Bob Dylan favorites, “If Not For You.” Rachel and Sky had a super fun vibe, and their families were lovely. To signify how simpatico everyone was, their moms both (coincidentally) wore the scarves that Rachel and Sky had brought back for them from a trip to India. It couldn’t have been done more perfectly.

Rachel and Sky’s wedding is next up for the blog, but before I get to it, here is a sneak peek:
This is something totally new for me – combining and overlaying frames, but as I’ve gotten more into the wedding photography world this year, I’ve really begun to appreciate all different kinds of styles, particularly those based more in fine art (since that’s not my background). Plus, there’s no better time for experimenting than the “off-season.” For this look, I was inspired by Noa of Feather Love Photography and Kelty of Steep Street.
